I know what your thinking how cool is her dress sense right! lol This was not my choice of attire, its actually advised to put on these clothes as the elephants were used to the smell of them. Every backpacker going to Thailand wants to see the elephants but I know how hard it is to find an elephant sanctuary that is actually looking after the elephants and not trying to just get as much money as possible out of the tourists. Being a massive animal lover myself I knew I couldn't go to somewhere where the elephants are abused, I don't know how I would even react in that situation. So here is my advise with the elephant sanctuary I visited, I did a one day Woody's elephant home tour, where you spend the day feeding them, bathing them, even learning some Thai. You can tell the elephants are treated well there, Woody the owner only allows a few visitors a day as he does not want the elephants to be overworked or tired.
My elephant for the day was one called Cookie who was actually one of the most mischievous ones out the lot, such a funny character. I was trying to speak Thai to him to walk down the hill, instead he wanted to go up the bank and pull a tree down, it really did make my day. This was one of my highlights of my experiences in Thailand and I would recommend everyone to visit Woodys, I would advise to prebook as it does get booked up, you can contact them via email aswell as phone which is quite handy. I think my face says it all in the photo how happy I am with me grinning from ear to ear. Elephants are so clever and have such a lovely nature, the entire day was just a dream so magical.
